Mount Everest, the earth's highest mountain, 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level, is tinged with the last rays of the setting sun as the moon rises high above the Kumbhu range. Makalu, world's 5th highest mountain, is at rear to the right, also tinged by sunlight.
The Tibetans, who share this mountain with Nepal, refer to it as Chomolungma, or "Holy Mother".
